SYNOPSIS
Young cellist Loke Hoe Kit returns to play selections of well-loved Romantic works by Faure, Schumann and Debussy, accompanied by pianist Nicholas Loh.
Loke Hoe Kit, 22, recently performed in sell-out solo recitals at Esplanade Recital Studio and The Arts House, receiving laudatory reviews in The Straits Times. He started playing the cello at 12 and made his concerto debut four years later with the Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra (BHSO). A protégé of distinguished cellists Nathaniel Rosen and Paul Tobias (both pupils of the legendary Gregor Piatigorsky), Hoe Kit studied at the Mannes College of Music in New York City. In 2005 at the 4th Lynn Harrell Concerto Competition for piano and strings, he emerged as the sole cello finalist. This month, he returns to perform as soloist with the BHSO in Brahms’ Double Concerto.
Nicholas Loh graduated from the University of Birmingham, UK, with first class honours in Music in 2005 under the PSC Overseas Specialist Award (Teaching). He studied piano under Dennis Lee, Toh Chee Hung and Joyce Woodhead, and holds an LTCL certificate for Piano Performance. He has worked with groups such as the University New Music Ensemble, the Guild Musical Theatre
