SYNOPSIS
A movement workshop open to dancers at all levels of experience that includes playful exploration of general embodiment through movements. Yong Wei will introduce the basic principles and techniques of contact improvisation, such as creating a score, and “listening”. The second half of the workshop will be an open dance jam where participants can practise the fundamentals they have learnt.
Contact Improvisation is a dance technique in which points of physical contact provide the starting point for exploration through movement improvisation. A form of dance improvisation and one of the best-known and most characteristic forms of postmodern dance, Contact Improvisation is practised as both a performance and social dance form. In the performance context, Contact Improvisation is used either as a dance practice or as a dance research method for identifying new set choreography. Practitioners of Contact Improvisation meet regularly in “jams” where they interact and create new dance choreography.
