SYNOPSIS
Conductor: Darrell Ang
Pianos: Gavin Jared Bala and Jonathan Chua Yu Jing
Violin: Yang Shuxiang

VAUGHAN WILLIAMS           The Wasps: Overture (9’)
SAINT-SAËNS                       Carnival of the Animals (21’)
intermission
CHAUSSON                           Poème, Op. 25 (16’)
ELGAR                                   Enigma Variations, Op. 36 (29’)

The young piano duo of Gavin Bala and Jonathan Chua, both 13 years of age, leads the familiar romp through Saint-Saëns’ ageless Carnival of the Animals, while violinist Yang Shuxiang brings to the fore the lyrical beauty of Chausson’s Poème.
The Enigma Variations, featuring the ever-popular Nimrod, remain one of Elgar’s most popular compositions to date, beloved as much for the enduring beauty of the music as for the witty portrayals of “my friends pictured within”.
