SYNOPSIS
Celebrate and explore the rich cultural heritage of the Kaveri River through this bharatanatyam dance production inspired by the legends, landscape and life along its banks.
The Kaveri River is one of India’s major waterways running through Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and across the southern Deccan plateau. It has been a source of life and an extensive irrigation system for South India’s ancient kingdoms and modern cities.
The Kaveri River is one of India’s major waterways running through Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and across the southern Deccan plateau. It has been a source of life and an extensive irrigation system for South India’s ancient kingdoms and modern cities.
Presented by Bharathaa Arts with choreography by the Kesavan Sisters and concept, music and artistic direction by Aravinth Kumarasamy, Kaveri is a unique dance production that will bring you on a journey of discovery through a celebration of life.
Join us for an evening of storytelling through dance as we uncover stories associated with the river, such as that of goddess Kaveri (after whom the river is named); its significance to the Vaishnavites (worshippers of the god Vishnu); tales of the ancient port city of Pompuhaar; and more.
