SYNOPSIS
Seventeen years ago, Xinmin Symphonic Band began as a brass band of merely 20 members. Today, the band has grown into an almost 120-strong full symphonic band, with its young musicians’ ages ranging from 13 to 17 years old.
Xinmin Symphonic Band performs a range of simple ensemble pieces to highly acclaimed and technically demanding works transcribed from famous musicals, operas and orchestral works in their annual concert Xinfony. The Band has clinched three consecutive prestigious Gold Awards in 2007, 2009 (with honours) and 2011 at the Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging for Concert bands.
As part of their biennial Overseas Band Exchange Programme, the Band enjoyed the privilege of being the first overseas high school band invited to perform in Hong Kong Disneyland.
Xinmin Symphonic Band has always been passionate and sincere in educating and training its young musicians. The Band aims not only to educate all our young musicians about music, but also train and inculcate in them many relevant life skills such as resilience, teamwork, time management, and values such as a mindset for excellence and responsibility.
Under the musical direction of a band maestro of high standing, Mr Brando Tan, and the relentless guidance from nurturing and caring band teachers, Mr Lee Kin Meng, Ms Cindy Bey, Mr Ng Yee Chong, Mdm Ida and Ms Lin MingLei, the Band has grown from strength to strength, and will continue to soar to greater artistic heights to enthrall our audiences in our performances.
