SYNOPSIS
This performance will take students on a musical journey starting from Singapore and going to various parts of the Malay Archipelago. Students will be immersed in the musical culture of Southeast Asia through various styles of gamelan music. This includes Javanese, Balinese or Sudanese styles used in the palace, during processions, celebrations and festivals as well as dance and wayang kulit performances.
Popular tunes will be used as a platform to show what the instruments are and how they sound. Additionally, audience participation is woven into the performance to help students to learn about this ethnic art form.
