SYNOPSIS
Dear Customers,
You have surely heard about the flight disruptions all over Europe due to the lingering clouds of volcanic ashes from Iceland. Unfortunately, this has also affected the flight of the musicians from Lautten Compagney who were to travel from Berlin to Singapore for their performance at the Esplanade later this week. As such, we regret to inform you that the 22 April 2010 show for Baroque in Singapore, Lautten Compagney: Chirping of the Nightingale has been cancelled.
All customers will get a full refund of the ticket price and SISTIC booking fee. Refunds will be processed at the SISTIC Box Office at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, 2 Stadium Walk, #01-08, Singapore 397691.

Etiquette, and the need to educate our youth about them, has been a concern of all ages. In the early 17th century, Mr John Playford wrote a book, teaching young gentlemen how to dance. This book, The Dancing Master, contains a huge number of airs, dances and country-dances. You can find these melodies in many other sources of that time as well, as they were models to other musicians and served for various publications. Among those, Greensleeves doubtlessly counts as one of the most popular ones.
The durability of the ancient airs by Playford and his likes is evident not only in the early-music scene, or in countless folk groups, but also in the way the tunes are cheerfully recycled in rock and pop music, from Simon and Garfunkel with Scarborough Fair to Guns 'n' Roses with Whisky in the Jar.
Lautten Compagney from Germany (Berlin), a group centred around two lute players, arranged these melodies virtuously and freely, resulting in a musical feast, combining different styles and applying modern interpretations while maintaining a solid foothold in authentic historical performance. The program will also feature works of Playford's contemporaries such as Henry Purcell. And if the music has you tapping your feet, you will find complete instructions in Mr. Playford's English Dancing Master.
