SYNOPSIS
Join the Singapore Wind Symphony as they bring to you popular music in symphonic style! Performing renditions of familiar songs, the band will give you a fresh take on not just pop music from the west but also from the Asia, featuring medleys of Korean and Japanese radio hits.
A longtime participant in the Beautiful Sunday series, Singapore Wind Symphony is celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. From its beginnings as the National Theatre Symphonic Band—Singapore's first ever—the band has over the decades contributed to the growth of the wind music scene in Singapore. The SWS has now grown to be a multi-ensemble music society with subsidiary groups such as its Youth Winds, Percussion Ensemble, Brass Ensemble and Big Band.
Leading the ensemble in this performance will be Conductor Adrian Tan, a unique multi-disciplinary artist with an impressive repertoire of work as well as achievements in Singapore and abroad. He studied conducting with Harold Farberman, Robert Gutter and Ovidiu Balan, and has participated in masterclasses with Gunther Herbig, and in wind and choral conducting with Jan Cober and Hans Leenders respectively. A recipient of the prestigious National Arts Council (Singapore) Overseas Scholarship, he completed his Masters in Music Studies (Conducting) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music studying with Imre Pallo.
