SYNOPSIS
Made up of 5 multi-instrumentalists, Australian indie pop ensemble Architecture in Helsinki make genre-defying music with a diverse range of instruments. The group released their debut album Fingers Crossed in 2003, and their 2005 follow-up In Case We Die cemented their reputation as one of the most promising and idiosyncratic indie pop acts around.
Now, four years after their last album—the wild and colourful Places Like This—Architecture in Helsinki return with the hook-laden, magnetic and lush Moment Bends. Retaining the fizzy immediacy of its three predecessors and with a more sophisticated touch, it sounds like the album they have waited their whole lives to make.
In large parts, Moment Bends is a dialogue with the dance floor, without being a slave to any particular rhythm. Imagine a sound that is equal parts Italia ’82, California ’79, and Melbourne 2011, glued together with a dynamic bounce and a compelling romanticism. Songwriter Cameron Bird says: “Moment Bends was all about being at one with our ideas, obsessed with popular music and falling in love with our hometown. We wanted to build a record to get lost in. A record that always feels exactly what you are feeling”.
After many national and international tours, Architecture in Helsinki make their way to Mosaic Music Festival with their unique indie pop sound.
