Two young ladies from the provinces travel to Paris in search of love.
Their father and uncle decide they should marry a pair of eminently
eligible young men but the two ladies find the men unrefined and
ridicule them. The men vow to take revenge. One of the two women meets
and falls in love with a young man who pretends to be a sophisticated man
of the world. Her cousin meets and falls for another young man. Are these
two new men who the ladies think they are?
Les Précieuses Ridicules (The Pretentious Young Ladies), is by French playwright Molière, who is
considered one of the greatest masters of comedy in Western literature. This well-loved comedy of
manners takes aim at the précieuses, the ultra-witty ladies who indulge in lively conversations
and word play. Theatre Du Kronope has transformed this play into a refreshingly dynamic work combining
improvisation, contemporary music and physical theatre.
